Keeley Super Phat Mod - Keeley's famous mod now in one pedal.

Many guitarists say the Phat Mod is their go-to tone from a pedal. Its natural breakup produces a sound that allows for expressive playing, and its dynamic response makes it feel alive and part of your technique. That's why the modified version has been so popular for over a decade and why the Keeley Super Phat Mod utilizes unique JFETs to perfectly replicate the sounds of classic tube amps.

Originally, the pedal design was excellent with tone stacks, tube-like drive stages, and a range of tone-shaping circuits to get the most out of any guitar pickup. It was difficult to find the perfect FET that could accurately capture the character previously. If the distortion and overdrive were lacking in harmonic content and gain, we kept searching until we found another option. Eventually Craighton Hale discovered a Toshiba device that made it possible to reach excellence. Aaron Pierce, known for his scrutiny of minor details, smiled from ear to ear when he gave his thumbs up for this Ear-Candy version. The effect achieved by this magic device propelled it beyond mediocrity. We clad it in gold and regal purple so that its exterior reflected its history and background. Super Phat Mod's legendary black face style logo in addition with metal flake clear sparkle on gold put together an overall stunning look in any setup.

Keeley Super Phat Mod Full Range Overdrive

The Keeley Super Phat Mod pedal is a full range overdrive and now has incredible dynamics. It is full range and very responsive. The phrase “transparent overdrive” was born of this design! The Phat Mod is the pedal of choice for guitarists playing country, blues and rock without the over-refined sound of a common screamer. Let your guitar's volume control and pick work do all the work by setting the gain on the Phat Mod to high. The Super Phat Mod gives you the best tone-shaping electronics, all Keeley Electronics refinements, and modern features like true-bypass.

The Phat History

The Keeley BD-2 was the first mod that had a switch. It was done to give players two modes of bass response, with the slight boost it was called the Phat mode. If you play a Stratocaster or Telecaster, the Super Phat Mod is perfect when you just want a small push without your sound being muddied. That circuit was available via a micro toggle on the Super Phat Mod. Winning Gear of the Year award in England, the Luna Overdrive was the next evolution. We then added further refinements to it and produced the Katana Blued Drive. While retaining its active bass and treble controls, the Katana Blues Drive smoothed the highs and slightly increased the gain range to meet many of the tonal characteristics of the Blues Driver. Duplicating the original Keeley Phat Mod circuit component-by-component with the enhancement of the new “super JFETs”, we believe you will love the incredible tone we've crafted for you with the Super Phat Mod.
